Occupational Summary

The Research Coomunications and Engagement Specialist II, as an employee of Duke University, will help develop, implement and coordinate strategies essential to the management of engagement projects and community-building initiatives conducted by CTTI (Clinical Trials Transformation Initiatives).

The engagement specialist will conduct membership and engagement related research, track and analyze data, and make recommendations to inform planning and strategy development. This role will also prepare and develop communications for promoting CTTI to key audiences such as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as academic organizations, government agencies, patient advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders in support of CTTI’s mission to increase clinical trial quality and efficiency.

This position is fully remote. All Duke University remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts: Arizona; California; Florida; Georgia; Hawaii; Illinois; Maryland; Massachusetts; Montana; New Jersey; New York; North Carolina; Pennsylvania; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia or Washington, DC; Washington (State); or Connecticut.

Work Performed

  • Work closely with CTTI’s engagement team to develop new and innovative ways to engage CTTI member organizations and the broader clinical trials community.
  • Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of community-building initiatives to increase the cohesiveness among CTTI members, enhance CTTI’s organizational impact, and drive innovation and positive change across the clinical trial ecosystem.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate strategies essential to the management of membership and engagement projects as well as the promotion of engagement offerings and related activities.
  • Assist with development and management of membership and engagement related communications. Create, edit, and design social media posts, blogs, e-newsletters, member resources, and other materials. Ensure that all communications follow CTTI standards and present CTTI in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Conduct industry research across the clinical trials enterprise, including CTTI-like organizations and related efforts, to help inform CTTI’s membership and engagement strategy and implementation approaches.
  • Provide programmatic support to CTTI’s engagement team, including tracking and reporting progress toward program goals and objectives. Assist with database management and proactively identify potential challenges and solutions to ensure ongoing data quality and accuracy. Review and analyze engagement level data, generate reports, and make recommendations to enhance the overall membership experience.
  • Coordinate and manage work flow processes for onboarding new Steering Committee representatives and triaging new membership and engagement inquiries. Prior experience with Asana project management software is not required but the ability to learn new technologies quickly will be an asset.
  • Collaborate effectively with CTTI team members and leadership to ensure alignment with and support of CTTI’s overall strategic plan, mission and vision.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations or related field; or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant health related discipline or science, in conjunction with communications experience. An advanced degree is desirable but not necessarily required.

Experience

Experience working in healthcare, clinical research or public health preferred in conjunction with communications, development and public relations experience. Experience in building and managing positive relationships with networks, community partnerships, professional organizations, and other stakeholders highly desirable.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to interact effectively with senior leaders across the clinical trials enterprise including regulatory officials, industry research sponsors, academic institutions, patient groups, and others
  • Political sensitivity and ability to exercise discretion and judgment
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Attention to detail
  • Software knowledge including Microsoft Office suite and experience with work collaboration software, or the ability to learn quickly
  • Experience in customer success management or development a plus
  • Experience with database management and/or CRM systems would be highly desirable
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time
