General Statement of Duties

Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Manages one or more IT functional areas within the Henrico County Public Library Department. Provides day-to-day and strategic leadership of Help Desk, Network/Telecommunications, or Systems Administration teams. Technology may include public and staff computing, Integrated Library System, audio visual, payment systems, telecommunications, cybersecurity, and printing. Provides effective supervision for team; leads projects as needed.

Essential Duties

Henrico County Public Library is seeking a Library IT Manager I to supervise five site Department Technology Specialist II’s who provide IT support desk services for all staff and public systems at our ten locations. The Library platform includes standards applications and hardware such as Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, HP, Dell, Xerox, Crestron, etc. as well as Library specific such as Lyngsoe, Bibliotheca, and Comprise and others.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise daily coordination of attendance and coverage including after hour on call backup, reporting, audits, compliance verification to support ERATE, and Credit Card PCI, coordination with outside vendors, and collaboration with other County agencies for support as needed.
  • Provide onsite support when required across any of the multiple library locations and systems.
  • Provide after hours on call support when the primary resource needs assistance.
  • Ensure tickets are addressed and resolved in a timely and efficient manner and provide advanced technical support and training for those technicians to resolve comprehensive and complex technical support issues.
  • Collaborate on department projects from planning to execution to refresh or expand library technologies and ensure staff and patron environments are reliable and effective.
  • Collaborate with the Department Library IT Manager II on project plans, long-term planning, budgets, procurement, and asset management and recommend tools, hardware, or software to resolve issues, streamline workflows, or enhance the Library platforms. Serves as primary backup support as needed to the primary on call technician and for the Library IT Manager II as needed.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Strong understanding of assigned IT area(s).
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills; discerning judgment, ability to set priorities, weigh options, and resolve complex matters.
  • Well-developed oral and written communications skills; the ability to communicate technical information in user-friendly language; customer service skills; collaboration skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge of basic statistics and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems / SIRSI is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Apple hardware and software knowledge, be experienced with printers, AV and laptop, tablet, phone, and desktop hardware.
  • Ability to become a subject matter expert on our Library technology including RFID, scanners, barcodes, self-checks, book returns and sortation, patron counters, payment stations, print management systems, and managed desktop access software for public computers.
  • Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to engage in effective supervision, interactions and collaborations. Physical ability sufficient to perform assigned duties in duty-related settings, locations and conditions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) year degree in Computer or Information Science-related field. Six (6) years of progressive experience in the assigned IT area, including some supervisory experience. OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • May be required to travel, work a flexible or on-call schedule, or be designated as essential personnel.
  • This position is based in an office and library setting; may be required to work at multiple locations based on operational need.
  • May be required to possess, obtain, or maintain specific IT certifications.

  • This is a 40 hours per week position. Flexible work hours are required to include work in early mornings, evenings, as well as weekends as needed.
  • The expected hiring range will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale.
  • Please be aware that while we are hiring for this position, at any time staff can be moved to other location or services areas for the good of the library.
