General Statement of Duties

Performs responsible administrative and technical work as a Tax Services Representative in support of the Business Section of the Department of Finance; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
The essential duties of the Tax Services Representative include:
- Answer calls from the public regarding business license, personal property and miscellaneous taxes. Assist taxpayers at the front counter by helping applicants with forms and providing directions to the Permits Center. Cooperate with management and staff within the department.
- Processing and completion of various tax forms including the business license and personal property returns. Post payments to business tax accounts. Review and verify data keyed into the system against taxpayer's original source document. Open, distribute and process mail. File and maintain accounts in strict alpha-numeric order. Retrieve records that have been sent to Security Archives.
- Extensive data entry work on the computer, including but not limited to looking up and verifying account information related to businesses and other tax accounts. Key new business license applications, personal property tax returns and other tax forms. Type various letters, forms and labels as needed. Research pertinent information in response to tax inquiries by the public, management and staff.
- Perform various miscellaneous duties as assigned, including the payroll, scanning/indexing of documents, verifying State Licenses through the appropriate agency, etc.
Must be available at all times during normal work hours and observe time limitations on breaks and lunches. Punctual in attendance of meetings.
Some knowledge of basic techniques in conducting research, planning and statistical work; ability to effectively use common business software packages; ability to research, learn, interpret, understand, apply and communicate agency program and service information; ability to provide operational support to agency programs and services; ability to assist with the measurement of program performance against goals and objectives; ability to systematically compile data, interpret and report monitoring and evaluation findings; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; ability to work effectively with other employees and with the public; ability to exercise discretion and to make sound decisions relative to their assigned program area.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and four (4) years of related administrative, program and/or clerical support experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Associate's degree preferred.
The starting salary for this position is $41,517.
