Position: Title I Summer School Paraeducator Grant-Funded - INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

(temporary/hourly assignment – eligible for job sharing)

SALARY: Current paraeducators with SMCPS shall be paid their hourly rate of pay.

Report To: Title I Summer School Lead Teacher and Teacher

Location: Lexington Park Elementary School

Effective: July 2024

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

NATURE OF WORK:

The para-educator position will provide instructional support to participating Title I students under the direction of the classroom teacher.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work under the direction of the classroom teacher;
  • Meet regularly with the teacher at a designated time for planning and evaluating student's progress;
  • Assist in developing learning activities with the Title I Summer School teacher;
  • Prepare, under the direction of the teacher or Lead Teacher, learning materials for school and home-based learning;
  • Assist in guiding students in working and playing with others;
  • Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary;
  • Assist in the supervision of students including weekly field trips;
  • Reinforce learning activities with appropriate technology, and other materials;
  • Assist teacher in maintaining clean and well-organized classroom environment;
  • Assist in all activities;
  • Assist in supervision of meals and snacks for students;
  • Attend, as necessary, preparation and closure of program;
  • Professional Development with the Lead Teacher and Instructional Coordinator; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an associate's or higher degree; OR
  • Passing Score on the Para Pro Exam; and
  • Paraeducators with Title I experience preferred.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Temporary/hourly position. Summer School is in session from July 8, 2024, through August 1, 2024. Four weeks, Monday – Thursday, Seven hours per day. Job sharing can be considered.

  • Four days of additional planning/preparation, closure, prior to July 8, 2024, and/or after August 1, 2024. Some flexibility is available for planning, preparation, and closure activities to accommodate individual needs.

SALARY GRADE RANGE: Current paraeducators with SMCPS shall be paid their hourly rate of pay.

BARGAINING UNIT ELIGIBILITY: Not Eligible
