The key responsibilities of the Benefits Administration & Communications Analyst – Retirement Plans include:

  • Conduct retirement appointments for non-exempt employees.
  • Provide customer service and consultative support related to the retirement process, severance process, and other employee separation programs.
  • Answer employee questions and provide guidance relating to retiree health eligibility, Rule of 75, the Faculty and Staff Retirement Plan (403b), and Duke’s 457 Plan.
  • Perform core plan administrative activities relating to the 403b and 457 Plans.
  • Host the Retirement Plans Overview seminars and other presentations as requested, including participating in Financial Fitness Week.
  • Maintain good relationships with vendors and other departments within Duke regarding plan administration, escalating issues to the Plan Managers as necessary.
  • Draft and contribute to employee communications, such as presentations, templates, and website.
  • Stay current on applicable laws, regulations, and legislative changes.
  • Provide support to Managers and the Retirement Team for special projects, including open enrollment, seminars, and plan implementation. Support fellow team members of the Benefit Services Team as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Training: Work requires communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program, preferable in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. CEBS or other group retirement planning designation a plus.

Experience

Work requires two to three years experience in a business/professional role. Employee benefits/HR practical experience preferred. Must be proficient in computer software and the latest electronic technology. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferences:

  • Prior group retirement plans experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of 403b/401k plans highly preferred; 457 plans and defined benefit experience a plus.
  • General understanding of Social Security and Medicare is desired.
  • Must be proficient in computer software and the latest electronic technology.
  • Prior experience presenting to large groups as well as one-on-one.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential matters and work with all levels in an organization, including executive level.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills; advanced decision making; critical thinking; and exceptional communication skills (verbal/written) are required.
  • Past experience coordinating vendor relationships.
