The Food Service Manager Trainee works with assigned managers to learn the specifics of the School Kitchen Manager role. This is an on-the-job training position that assumes responsibility for the efficient operation of the school kitchen and may be required to replace absent managers on either a short or long-term basis. Travel between locations may be required. (Position requires no nights, weekends or holidays)
The salary range is $18.29 - 24.19 per hour

Physical Demands:
Majority of the work is performed by standing or walking. The work requires using hands for simple grasping, pushing and pulling. The work at times requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy weighted items. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. The work requires activities involving exposure to changes in temperature and humidity.

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Responsibilities
- Works closely with food service manager to learn the essentials of the position
- Actively engage and supervise the daily food preparation and service of high quality, nutritious meals to students and adults
- Ensures adherence to established local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations for preparing, serving, counting and claiming of meals
- Supervises and trains food service assistants in their work and instructs them on daily tasks
- Processes all on-line food and stock requisitions and maintains back of the house inventory
- Supervises and assists in cleaning kitchens, storerooms, refrigerators and other kitchen equipment
- Inspects food quality and quantity, recipe compliance, cafeteria cleanliness and service on a continual basis
- Attends required meetings and in-service trainings
- Practices exceptional customer service skills
- Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan
- Performs other duties as assigned.
