Occupational Summary

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development and implementation of experimental procedures within the overall scope of a research project at Duke University.

Work Performed

Collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Greeting research participants, explaining procedures, installing electrodes for the recording of research EEG and PSG studies, and performing research related neurophysiology recordings independently
  • Coordinate multicenter research studies
  • Assuring the proper functioning of the devices and the recording of data
  • Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures, and device experimental techniques for tests and analyses
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions
  • Data processing, including preparing montages, annotating and reporting of EEG and PSG data for research studies
  • Supervising integrity of research data and transfer from the research and clinical platforms, compiling data, preparing reports, maintaining records, and files
  • Confer with principal investigator in determining scientific experiments to be included in the research protocol and to discuss the interpretation of results
  • Developing, documenting, and implementing research protocols and assist the PI with IRB submissions
  • Assisting with preparing research articles for publication
  • Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development and implementation of experimental procedures and specialized laboratory techniques in the analysis of materials under experimentation
  • Provide support for Anphy lab projects, such as providing technical input for study design
  • Lab management - including but not limited to ordering supplies, managing equipment, lab space management, update safety logs, ensure everyone is complaint with training, and maintain research access and drives
  • Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Training and supervision of new staff and students

Education/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two-year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience

Strong Preference:

5 years of experience in the domain of EEG with solid skills in interpretation of sleep studies and recordings of people with epilepsy due to the nature of the research
