POSITION OVERVIEW: The Executive Director of School Leadership will play a pivotal role in advancing the educational mission of the district by providing leadership, guidance, and support to building leaders through deliberate attention, supervision, and evaluation of school leadership staff. This position will ensure principal and leadership team effectiveness by developing and evaluating principal capacity to lead systems of instruction, school improvement, and positive school climate efforts in alignment with the Board of Education’s Plan of Action and providing professional development, coaching, and support for principals and school leadership teams.

JOB GOAL: Supports the Chief of Leadership and Learning by providing oversight, direction, guidance, and support to principals. Works with principals and leadership teams on focused and aligned school improvement efforts. Serves as the liaison between schools and various departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or higher and GAPSC Certification in Educational Leadership; Ed.S. is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible teaching and learning experience with at least three (3) years of district office and/or related full-time administrative experience in educational leadership roles, in K-12 public school settings.
  • Previous building level experience as a principal is required; three (3) years of experience is preferred.

  • Ability to exhibit a consistent sense of urgency around improving student performance, closing the achievement gap, and making the instructional improvements needed to do so.
  • Ability to make challenging decisions, remain professional under stress, and possess exceptional judgment.
  • Ability to coach and mentor principals and other leaders to drive student achievement gains.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as a key adviser to the Chief of Learning and Leadership regarding matters related to principal supervision and evaluation.
  2. Ensures strong, on-going communication with Principals and district leaders and collaborates with supervisor and district leaders on the design of a support model for principal and leadership team effectiveness.
  3. Develops principal capacity to lead systems of instruction, school improvement, a positive school climate, and district priorities as aligned with the Board of Education’s Plan of Action.
  4. Provides coaching, professional development, and support for principals and school leadership teams. Work with principals and leadership teams on focused and aligned school improvement efforts.
  5. Works in collaboration with other Divisions and district stakeholders to support school principals as they develop professional learning plans for improving teacher effectiveness.
  6. Establishes and maintains clear, consistent interactions with parents, families and community partners to receive input and feedback on the effectiveness of assigned schools, to improve family engagement and communication, and resolve concerns.
  7. Support, monitor, and guide principals in the development and implementation of action plans necessary to meet district priorities as aligned with the Board of Education’s Plan of Action.
  8. Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities, teaching and learning support, and instructional resources which will enable school leaders to implement a standards-based curriculum and promote collaboration among district instructional specialists and school-based instructional staff.
  9. Ensures that professional learning initiatives and plans align with key goals of the district and school.
  10. Research current trends regarding instructional strategies, curriculum methodology, and educational administration policies and programs.
  11. Provides leadership support, and teaching and learning resources and structures to improve student achievement outcomes.

Other Duties:

  1. Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia as established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  2. Projects a positive image when dealing with the public, employees, parents, and students.
  3. Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance. Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
  4. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
