Join a team that’s Changing What’s Possible – The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine seeks an academically-oriented Hematopathologist. MUSC is a tertiary care hospital with active transplantation, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics services, as well as an apheresis service. Our Department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.

We are seeking

  • Academically oriented candidate with 1-3 years of post-fellowship experience is preferred; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered
  • MD or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • Board certification/eligibility in Hematopathology
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina
  • Additional subspecialty expertise in Molecular Genetic Pathology is preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency in the use, interpretation, and integration of flow cytometry (including MRD), cytogenetic and molecular techniques in the clinical work-up of cases.
  • Experience in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers as well as serving as a resource to technologists at the bench
  • Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors is expected
  • Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and team player approach to patient care
  • Ability to instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents and hematology fellows, and actively participate in academic mission of the NCI-designed Hollings Cancer Center adult and pediatric hematology malignancy and bone marrow transplant programs.

MUSC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

  • Collaborative team composed of 55 faculty – with 2 experienced staff in the Hematopathology Section
  • High quality training programs with 22 residents and 10-12 fellows who have had a 100% board passage rate for the past 7 years
  • CAPS, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations
  • You will participate in a busy hematology laboratory service, which includes sections for body fluids analysis, flow cytometry, coagulation and bone marrow and lymph node diagnostic services
  • The Hematopathology section offers an ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Hematopathology and an ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Molecular Genetic Pathology
