PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional shall report directly to the principal; however, the paraprofessional is under the daily supervision of their assigned teacher/s. The Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional must be able to perform tasks involving light/moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling and must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. Vision, hearing and verbal communication are essential factors in performing required tasks, duties, and responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate’s Degree or two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of college OR HS diploma/GED with successful completion of the Georgia Paraprofessional Assessment Certification Test.
  2. Valid Paraprofessional Certificate.
  3. Be able to work well with adults and students, and possess good communication skills.
  4. Be well organized and have good time management skills.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Is present at work every day, on time, and performs all duties as assigned effectively and efficiently.
  2. Is neat and professional in appearance befitting the job they provide the school system.
  3. Shall exhibit a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public.
  4. Demonstrates appropriate communication skills as applicable for the job.

  6. Recognizes Cultural Diversity in dealing with students, parents, coworkers and the public.
  7. Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, as related to job requirements.
  8. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to chain of command.
  9. Participates in appropriate trainings, workshops and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
  10. Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  11. Exhibits time on task, a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard working attitude and style.
  12. Takes direction readily in a cooperative manner from the lead teacher.
  13. Assist the lead teacher in maintaining orderly, neat and attractive atmosphere in the classroom.
  14. Provides adequate supervision of students at all times.
  15. Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the regularly-assigned teacher.
  16. Conducts small-group and individual instruction according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  1. Assists in student data collection.
  2. Assists in routine record-keeping.
  3. Prepares instructional materials according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  4. Locates, procures, operates and returns needed equipment.
  5. Assists in routine classroom housekeeping responsibilities.
  6. Be physically able to perform tasks involving light to heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling and must be able to walk and/or stand a minimum of six (6) hours with breaks.
  7. Assists in ordering/inventorying classroom equipment, materials and supplies.
  8. Demonstrates loyalty to the school, school system and administrators.
  9. Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Classified Salary Schedule GRADE 5 - 7 based on education level

GRADE 5 = paraprofessional assessment test w/ HS diploma or GED

GRADE 6 = Associates Degree / 60+ semester hours or 90+ quarter hours

GRADE 7 = Bachelor’s Degree or higher
