Job Description

The Medical University of South Carolina, James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position as the Orthodontics Graduate Program Director.  

The primary area of responsibility of the faculty position is to lead the Orthodontics Graduate Program, including active participation in the teaching, research, and patient care components of the program. Position also requires teaching in the predoctoral orthodontic curriculum. The successful candidate must have a creative and positive attitude toward maintaining a collaborative work environment. Opportunities are available for intramural faculty practice.

Required qualifications include a D.M.D., D.D.S. degree or equivalent and advanced training in Orthodontics with ABO Board certification. Academic rank and salary will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and commensurate with level of experience. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in didactic and clinical teaching, scholarship, and program administration. Applicants who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, a history of funded research/training grants, and publications will receive the highest consideration. 

The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to relate to office staff, faculty, and senior leadership. They must display initiative, a positive attitude, and commitment to department goals and objectives. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology, demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning, and incorporate evidence-based oral health care and innovation in student learning and crucial thinking.

The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in academic dentistry and research. We particularly welcome candidates with a strong background in clinical/translational research, a strong history of funded research, service on CODA and other national organizations, interdisciplinary leadership skills, and a commitment to equity, and inclusion. The academic rank and salary will be based on the candidate's qualifications and commensurate with their experience level.
