Job Description Summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Department of Neurology seeks a qualified individual to join out growing Neurohospitalist program.  We are seeking a qualified candidate who will provide bedside and remote care to hospitalized patients with general neurologic issues.  Neurohospitalists in the Department of Neurology have alternating inpatient service weeks, which run Monday through Sunday.  Candidates must be board-certified in Neurology and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and clinical care. The General Neurology Inpatient and Consultation Services function as one of the primary teaching rotations, and responsibilities will include supervising residents and medical students.  Other clinical duties will include taking after hour call remotely from on the weekend during the assigned service week, day time inpatient telehealth shifts through our Center for Telehealth, and running a Hospital Discharge Clinic.  Experience as a Neurohospitalist is desirable, but not necessary.  

Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and training. The MUSC Medical Center is a high-volume, tertiary referral center serving a large population where a broad range of common acute neurological conditions are encountered. Charleston, SC is a beautiful coastal community with a family-oriented atmosphere.

(Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be able to maintain bi-lateral hand movement skills. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.

Additional New Requirements: Ability to maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
