Job Description Summary

Position is for a Research Nurse Coordinator for the following programs: Pulmonary & Critical Care Clinical Research, COVID-19 Research, and Research in Advanced Therapies in Gastroenterology. Responsible for adhering to study guidelines, coordinating study visits, ensuring participants meet stringent clinical inclusion guidelines. Coordinates and manages clinical trials and subjects in various protocols. Collaborates with the research team and investigators. Clinical trial experience is not needed as training will be provided. May need to cover some visits outside of normal business hours.

Job Description

Job Duties:

30% - Performing technical and clinical requirements of study protocols, i.e., venipuncture, specimen processing, vital signs, sweat testing, electrocardiograms, sputum induction, IV infusions, IV pump operations, Holter monitoring, 6MWT, COVID swabs, pulmonary function testing, urine/serum pregnancy testing, throat swabs, injections (IM or SQ) or any procedure necessary for the protocol. Records appropriate clinical and laboratory data on forms provided by the program, federal government, and/or sponsors.

30% - Responsible for communicating study participant progress and safety issues with investigators and care team members as applicable. For inpatient clinical trials, works with the unit staff and care team to enroll and monitor the subject’s progress. Monitoring for possible complications with the administration of study drugs with an emphasis on injections or intravenous infusions.

15% - Serves as clinical research nurse coordinator who pre-screens study subjects, obtains informed consent, and enrolls into the clinical trials. Works with subjects, caregivers, and other care team members regarding participation in the trial. Provides subject education regarding investigational product and procedures, including dosing.

15% - Coordinate proper data management according to protocol requirements and compliance, i.e. collect and record all data pertaining to study patients on specific study and submit on time to research bases.  Provide database support (design, implement, update and review for integrity).

10% - Other duties as assigned by the program leadership.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license. Requires certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation.

(Frequent) Ability to push/pull objects, up to 350 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.
