Job Description Summary

Under indirect supervision, the Metabolic & Bariatric RN Specialty Coordinator performs routine and specialized administrative functions to support the leader and department management to maintain an efficient and effective operation. The Metabolic & Bariatric RN Specialty Coordinator is a member of the Digestive Health ICCE and will report to the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Program Manager. The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support for the bariatric surgery team, coordinate new patient referrals into the program (self-referrals, internal and external physician referrals), coordinate new patient consultations for bariatric surgery with the interdisciplinary team and work with insurance companies to verify benefits. This position will also submit clinical information for approvals, schedule surgery, coordinate preoperative visits, provide support for special programs, processes, and procedures, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary bariatric surgery team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, clinicians, and administrative staff involved in the care of the bariatric surgery patient.

This position is responsible for administrative support and assistance in maintenance of the program compliance with the standards required by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Additional Job Description

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of three years clinical nursing experience required.

Licensure a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or compact state required. Certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA) preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
