Initiates welcome calls to patients referred for transplant; makes recommendations Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the status of assigned program area(s). Reviews, evaluates and runs reports on assigned program area. Provides assistance to care team members and patient's regarding evaluation requirements, assists in scheduling appointments and completing tasks in the transplant phases. Takes and processes routine program requests from customers. Supervises program assistants as needed.

Job Description

The Transplant Program Specialist reports to the Transplant Program Manager of the Transplant Center. Under general supervision, the Transplant Program Specialist proactively collaborates with the Transplant team to establish, coordinate, and perform all administrative duties required to support the team.  The Transplant Program Specialist uses critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills to assist the Transplant RN Coordinator II in growing the number of patients listed for transplant in accordance with regulatory requirements from UNOS and CMS. The position operates as the liaison between patient and the Transplant Center’s clinical staff in communicating relevant information by telephone and written correspondence.  This role is responsible for maintaining the transplant data base, accurate data entry, ongoing training of new staff and keeping up-to-date with the regulatory changes in UNOS and CMS.  The Transplant Program Specialist must function independently and possess 1) professional demeanor, 2) exceptional problem-solving skills, 3) a “can-do” work philosophy, and 4) exceedingly positive and compassionate disposition. There are specific outcome metrics the Transplant Program Specialist will be required to achieve monthly.

Additional Job Description

A bachelor’s degree or high school diploma and four years of relatable work experience is required. Previous experience in a secretarial/clerical position is preferred. Basic keyboarding skills are required; medical terminology is preferred. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals.
