Job Description Summary

The Innovation Program Manager will play a critical role in managing and executing intrapreneurship and innovation initiatives across the academic health system. Reporting to the Executive Director of Intrapreneurship and Innovation Culture within the Office of Innovation, this position will focus on driving a culture of innovation and collaboration among clinicians, researchers, faculty, and staff. The Innovation Program Manager will oversee the planning, development, and implementation of programs that encourage and support creative problem-solving, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the development of new ideas that enhance patient care, research, and education.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and proactive leader with a passion for fostering innovation within a complex healthcare environment. They will be responsible for managing innovation programs, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring that intrapreneurial efforts are aligned with the system’s strategic objectives.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management and Execution:

  • Coordinate the health system Innovation Pillar Goal.
  • Design, develop, and manage innovation and intrapreneurship programs, such as idea challenges, innovation sprints, incubators, and workshops.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end process of innovation initiatives, including ideation, evaluation, piloting, and scaling successful projects.
  • Establish and maintain a pipeline of innovative ideas, ensuring a clear pathway for ideas to be tested, refined, and implemented.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support:

  • Work closely with clinicians, researchers, faculty, students and staff to identify challenges and opportunities for innovation within clinical, operational, and academic settings.
  • Provide coaching, resources, and support to teams participating in innovation initiatives, helping them to refine ideas and develop actionable solutions.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration, connecting individuals and teams across the health system to foster a more integrated approach to problem-solving.

Culture Building and Intrapreneurship:

  • Promote a culture of innovation by organizing events, workshops, and training sessions that inspire and equip employees with the skills needed to think creatively and act entrepreneurially.
  • Act as an ambassador for intrapreneurship, encouraging employees at all levels to contribute ideas and engage in innovation activities.
  • Recognize and celebrate successful innovation efforts, highlighting intrapreneurs and teams that make significant contributions.

Performance Measurement and Reporting:

  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of innovation programs and their impact on patient care, research outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for the Executive Director and other stakeholders, summarizing program outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Continuously assess program effectiveness, gathering feedback from participants and making adjustments to enhance impact.

Change Management and Communication:

  • Assist in leading change management efforts to embed innovation practices into the daily work of the enterprise.
  • Develop communication strategies that articulate the value and impact of innovation initiatives to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for the Office of Innovation, representing the office in internal meetings and external events.

Resource Coordination:

  • Manage resources, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Identify and coordinate internal and external resources, including partnerships with other departments, vendors, and external experts, to support program activities.

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Innovation Management, Organizational Development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in program management, innovation, project management, or a related role within a healthcare, academic, or research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing innovation or change initiatives, preferably within a complex academic health system or similar setting.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, educators, and administrators.
  • Proficiency in using innovation tools and methodologies, such as design thinking, lean startup, agile, or other relevant frameworks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently manage projects with minimal supervision.
