Job Description:

Working as a member of a professional team to process student financial aid applications and explain financial aid policies and processes to students, parents, and other constituents. Responsible for general financial aid duties including, but not limited to, counseling students through the financial aid application process, determining eligibility in accordance with State and Federal regulations, electronic processing functions, and other customer service duties. Provides support as needed to meet the goals and objectives of the Office of Enrollment Management.

Job Duties:

Provide students, parents, and other clients of the office, comprehensive counseling on financial aid management (Title IV, Title VII, Title VIII, state and institutional programs), eligibility guidelines, policies, procedures. Provides customers (students, co-workers, and other constituents) with outstanding customer service experience, while ensuring compliance with Institutional, State, and Federal financial aid guidelines. Counsel students and parents regarding all aspects of financial services operations, methods, and policies and procedures to ensure complete, accurate, and timely financing of student educational expenses. Provides consumer information related to program responsibilities and presents information to prospective students in person and at orientation/interviews sessions. (35%)

Responsible for all steps of the financial aid process (need analysis, verification, awarding, loan origination, disbursement eligibility requirements, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), transfer monitoring, over-awards, etc.) and processing records according to federal, state, and established institutional parameters, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate processing, timely release of funds, and accurate reconciliation. Possess working knowledge of Title IV, VII, VIII and State Programs to ensure compliance and audit requirements. Ability to identify issues, investigate possible reasons/solutions, evaluate possible outcomes, and develop the most efficient and effective plan of action for each individual situation. Evaluate and make independent decisions in relation to unusual cases and special requests. Process records and perform specific functions related to Title IV, Title VII, and Title VIII programs to ensure smooth operations of the Office, timely disbursement, and reconciliation of funds. Financial Aid Coordinator will lead one or more FA programs (such as FWS, Communications, CHE, Reconciliation, Electronic Data Retention, VA, etc.). (20%)

Assist with additional FA functions such as but not limited to review of ELM guarantee and disbursement reports of private loans, HHS awarding procedures, and front desk duties. Work with other departments to coordinate the tracking, awarding, and disbursement of internal scholarship funds. Develop familiarity and master cross functions within the Office of Student Financial Aid to be able to handle all requests. Assist the Director of Student Financial Aid and Associate Director of Student Financial Aid on projects as needed and perform all other duties in the Office of Student Financial Aid as assigned. (5%)

Participates in general OEM functions, including but not limited to: collaboration between teams, Commencement preparation and execution, special workshops, front desk coverage and any other situational duties as assigned. Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities for professional development. (5%)

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and one year experience in student services programs.

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills:

Basic working knowledge of computer-based information systems and data collection and reporting procedures. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of University personnel. Must work independently with guidance and periodic review by the supervisor. Will have policies and procedures available and will be taught specialized material. Expected to exercise considerable discretion. Must be able to work effectively under pressure while establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships to be successful as a member of a team. Must possess superior organizational and problem-solving skills. Must possess superior attention to detail. Must have the ability to work independently and manage priorities and timelines in a deadline driven environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel is desired.
