Job Summary:
MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

The Precertification Specialist / Surgery Scheduler coordinates the activities related to patient surgery scheduling within the peri-operative environment, interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcome. Performs pre-certification functions to ensure that all services requiring carrier authorizations are approved.

Job Description:  

The Precertification Specialist / Surgery Scheduler coordinates the activities related to patient surgery scheduling within the peri-operative environment, interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcome. Performs pre-certification functions to ensure that all services requiring carrier authorizations are approved.  

Minimum Education and Experience:  

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two years’ work experience in hospital registration, insurance, or financial counseling required; a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.  

Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of the techniques and practices of OR Scheduling. Considerable knowledge of complex medical terminology and advanced disease processes preferred.  Previous work experience in pre-certification and knowledge of medical terminology highly preferred.
