Job Duties:
50% Audiology/ Hearing aid financial counseling
- Maintains advanced knowledge of insurance contracts, service locations, specialties and services provided, fee schedules and pre-certification and authorization requirements.
- Works with patients and families to ensure patient accounts are satisfied in a timely manner. Ensures that patients are informed of financial obligations prior to performing hearing aid related procedures.
- Analyzes unfunded accounts for determination of eligibility for sponsorship by available agencies.
- Serves as a liaison with department finance, as well as UMA and MUHA revenue cycle to review billing/collections and troubleshoot issues related to hearing aids.
30% Effort for hearing aid repairs/checks
- Check the hearing aids when they arrive, which include reading the hearing aids on the computer and running an electroacoustic analysis
- Perform routine cleaning of hearing aids, change receivers and wax protection filters, and clean corrosion in battery compacts
- Send out hearing aid repairs when necessary
- Verify if patient may pick up repaired hearing aid or if they need an appointment for fitting
10% Effort for equipment
- Verifies equipment is available and working in each room
- Rooms patients according to procedure
- Cleans rooms between patients
- Shuts down all equipment in booth room, hearing aid fitting room, lab and diagnostics room and verifies all rooms are clean at the end of the day
- Maintains inventory of clinical supplies.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
10% Effort for new hearing aids
- Send out hearing aid orders
- Track orders to ensure that they arrive in a timely manner for the hearing aid fitting
- Performs hearing aid orientation, including basic care and use of the hearing aid (insertion, removal, adjusting volume, etc.)
- Provides accessory orientations, pairing of devices and troubleshooting of accessories
- Completes basic paperwork such as repair forms, purchase agreements, and warranty information.
- Follows good safety and infection control protocols.
- Exercises confidentiality relating to patient and business information.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: High School Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 2 years
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs (+/-) unassisted. Lift from 36” to overhead 15 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
