Job Description Summary

Employee will serve as the Asbestos & Environmental Programs Lead (Air Quality, Underground and Above Ground Storage Taks, Water and Spill Prevention, and Asbestos.) This position will be responsible for end-to-end program development and support. Duties include: Inventory and Compliance Management for all MUSC boilers and generators, management of all applications for licenses (construction, operations, etc.), lead all special environmental projects as needed, and serve as Co-Manager of the Workplace Health and Safety Emergency Response Team. This role will be required to work On-Call shifts, support all Emergency Response Initiatives within the Charleston area, and maintain certifications and compliance for EPA, DHEC, and MUSC training and development. This position will manage direct reports as needed.

Job Description

30% - Supervises a field staff which includes development of projects, conducting in-service trainings and staff development programs. This position will also require staff development in the form on standard and consistent coaching and development, program assessment, and professional and personal development. Particular focus is on Air Quality, Asbestos Safety and Management, Underground and Above Ground Storage Tanks, and Spill Prevention and Safety programs. Assistance with Industrial Hygiene and Fit Testing is requested on occasion and cross-training is required. Leading weekly rounding sessions, team meeting, and serving on leadership meeting panels will be required.

25% - Conducts standard, non-standard and specialized industrial hygiene inspections or consultations of industries to detect and identify potential occupational health hazards in the workplace. Performs sampling for air contaminants and noise to determine actual employee exposure levels. Prepares technical reports on inspections or consultations that include notes, photos and descriptions of alleged hazards found during the inspection or consultation.

25% - Serves as Co-Manager of the Emergency Response Team within the Workplace Health and Safety group which includes duties such as scheduling coverage for all on-call duties, tracking overtime and on-call spending, maintenance of ERT Inventory, identifying training and development opportunities and assisting in creating job aids, training documents, and leading assessments and training on a monthly basis with the ERT team. This would require participation in all Emergency Response activities, On-Call, Trouble Call, and all other ERT response activities based on the continuing evolution of MUSC needs.

20% - Serves as the Workplace Health and Safety Liaison to our EPA, DHEC, and other regulatory and compliance partners to ensure policies and processes are up-to-date and communication plans are disseminated to MUSC Leadership. This includes preparing narratives and statistical reports pertaining to environmental quality and health programs, trending and analysis of current concerns and issues, budgetary management within these programs, and providing frequent dashboard updates and communications. Serves as Community Engagement Laison for Environmental Programs and provides consulting and training to the public, public officials, consultants and industrialists on matters related to environmental quality.

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and four years experience in environmental health programs or radiologic health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for two years of the required work experience. Some positions require the possession of a valid Driver's license. Some positions require the successful completion of specialized courses in health physics or certification as a health physicist.
