Job Description Summary

Candidate will lead a team using mouse model systems to develop novel therapeutics for diseases involving fibrosis for which there are currently no effective, FDA-approved treatments. The candidate will perform supervised work on several projects using animal models of fibrosis. General duties will include processing and analyzing tissue samples from mice, performing various biologic analyses (gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, etc.), and participating in laboratory discussions, organization and regulatory procedures. Maintenance of up-to-date, comprehensive and neat laboratory records will be required.

Under supervision from the principal investigator, candidate will perform complex biological procedures and analyses in a basic science laboratory. All of the experiments require meticulous technique and the ability to optimize and troubleshoot a variety of different protocols. The candidate will be expected to help prepare experimental results for presentation and publication. The candidate will also be expected to provide guidance to other staff working on the project.

Will require occasional weekend work.

Job Description

Job Duties:

35% - Conducts studies on the efficacy in a variety of animal model systems of novel therapeutic agents developed in our lab.  Expertise in mouse handling, surgery, immunological and histological methods, fluorescent microscopy, and evaluation of organ function, and evaluation of organ function are a must.

25% - Maintain laboratory notebook/ computer files of samples/ data, conduct analyses, draft figures and tables.

15% - Present experimental data in laboratory meetings and participate in presentations of journal club and research conferences.

15% - Order supplies, maintain laboratory to meet criteria for institutional standards of safety and
biohazard considerations.

10% - Perform and analyze studies involving single cell and/or single nucleus RNA Seq.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:

  • Knowledge about cell, molecular, biochemical, and/or immunological methods is essential, and experience in these areas is desired. The candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, a talent for managing diverse tasks, and an ability to work well in a team. 
  • Candidate should be highly motivated, detail oriented, and committed to excellence. The ideal candidate will have a keen intellectual interest in the science behind the projects and a demonstrated commitment to increasing their background knowledge about their work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

A Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent with two years post doctorate experience.
