POSITION SUMMARY 

The Patient Care Tech I is an employee who has received training and has demonstrated competency to perform specific patient care procedures and assist the licensed professional nursing staff in delegated daily patient care procedures and assist the licensed professional nursing staff in delegated daily patient care activities. Patient Care Tech. services are performed under the supervision of the licensed professional nursing staff. Responsibilities include performance of secretarial and receptionist duties and provide basic patient care. This includes, but is not limited to, taking vital signs, assisting with ADLs, order transcription, order entry, medical record documentation, etc.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. 

Minimum Work Experience:  Not required. Patient care experience preferred.

Admission/Transfer/Discharge 

Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patient. 

Communication 

Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and physicians. 

Feeding 

Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient's age and physical condition. 

Communicates changes 

Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and

general patient population. 

Treatments 

Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice. 

Assists Physician with Procedures 

Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN. 

Patient Communication 

Meets communication needs of patients. 

Documentation 

Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift. 

Pain Management 

Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain. 

Patient Care 

Performs basic Patient Care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age. 

Patient Care 

Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant's scope of practice. 

Vital Signs 

Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output. 

Answer Patient Call Lights 

Answers patients call lights, anticipates patients’ needs and makes rounds to assigned patients. 

Distributes Nourishments 

Distributes drinking water and other nourishments to patients. 

Patient Care 

Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan or commode and ambulating the patients. 

Initiative 

Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant. 

Relationships 

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. 

Equipment Use 

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. 

Respect/Dignity 

Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. 

Other Duties 

Other duties as assigned.
