Job Description

Histotechnologist - Under direct supervision performs routine and complex histologic procedures in accordance with established procedures. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, and frozen sectioning on human tissue to produce microscopic slides submitted for pathologists’ review. Performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. This position works on the MUSC Charleston campus, Day shift, Monday-Friday, rotating on-call nights and weekends (8:00 am - 9:00 pm).

Requirements (Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Registry and/or Certifications):

A bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology or other related scientific discipline and histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent and 3 years full-time experience.
