Job Description

The Department of Radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), located in historic Charleston, SC, is seeking applicants for a full-time Neuroradiology Division Chief position. This role presents an outstanding opportunity to lead a thriving division, to play a key role in advancing the academic mission of the Department of Radiology, and to foster the continued growth of internal and external collaborations. The selected candidate will oversee the clinical, educational, and research endeavors while promoting the academic and clinical expansion of the Neuroradiology Division, in alignment with the Department’s mission, strategy, and goals.

The Division of Neuroradiology is dedicated to providing outstanding patient care, education, and clinical research opportunities within a supportive and collaborative environment. The Division Chief will take charge of administrative responsibilities for the division and will promote a culture of quality care and patient safety. Ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and efficiency of services for patient and referring providers will be a primary focus.

The Division Director, reporting to the Chair of the Department of Radiology, will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including the Department Chair, Vice Chair of Operations of the Department of Radiology and the chief of the MUSC ICCE – Radiology for appropriate staffing levels, utilization and selection of equipment/technology and allocation of space to discharge the clinical, research and educational programs of the division. The Division Director will also oversee performance evaluations of division faculty and ensure compliance with institutional, local, state and federal policies, rules and regulations related to neuroradiology whether on or off campus. Additionally, the Division Chief will collaborate with the MUSC Health staff to ensure optimization and monitoring of policies, procedures, and imaging protocols.

MUSC Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent degree with completion of Neuroradiology fellowship or equivalent subspecialty training.  Candidates must also be board certified (or eligible) by the American Board of Radiology and board certified (or eligible) for CAQ in Diagnostic Neuroradiology.  Eligibility for full medical licensure in the state of South Carolina is also required. Excellent qualifications in clinical care and education are expected, and appointees will carry clinical responsibilities in adult and pediatric neuroradiology, including brain, head and neck, and spine. A strong commitment to the education of medical students, residents, and neuroradiology fellows is essential. A track record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications and gaining research funding is highly desirable.

MUSC fosters a collaborative clinical scientific environment supporting its faculty in many ways including state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities.  Cutting-edge clinical equipment includes a Photon-counting Detector CT and MRI scanners equipped with advanced imaging software, including two 3T MRI scanners dedicated to pediatric imaging. The PACS system is integrated across the enterprise and selected clinical assignments can be covered on home PACS workstations. MUSC consists of several closely related clinical service organizations. These include the University Hospital, the Ashley River Tower, the Institute of Psychiatry, the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, the Children's Health R. Keith Summey Medical Pavilion, and Storm Eye Institute. Clinical and research expertise includes a statewide stroke program, recognized as Comprehensive Stroke Center, the Medical University of South Carolina Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, designated as a Level 4 center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, and nationally ranked Otolaryngology and Pediatric Oncology Programs.
