Job Description Summary

The Polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The technologist should be registered in sleep technology or be eligible to sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire. The Medical University of South Sleep Center has two accredited sleep labs located in Charleston at the main hospital and off campus in North Charleston. Both are accredited by The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. We are looking for strong dedicated people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare and education to our patients. We provide testing for all ages(0-99+).

Job Description

Under the direction of a physician, administers various sleep studies in order to diagnose the type and extent of sleep disorders. Performs routine patient assessments, scores sleep records, documents other test results, and collects and transmits biological specimens for analysis.

Additional Job Description

Minimum qualifications include graduation from a program approved by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) or a successor accrediting authority, credentialed by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, and a minimum of one year of experience. Extensive knowledge of polysomnography principles, practices and clinical applications; ability to act quickly and competently in emergency situations. PSGT III requirements must be completed and maintained in order to remain in the PSG III classification.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Credentialed by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider required.
