Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Department of Neuroscience is seeking highly motivated applicants to fill Research Assistant in neuropathology and neuroimmunology for the unique interdisciplinary NHI-funded laboratory for two year (optional to extend three years).

Prenatal brain injury can cause abnormal immune activity, leading to long-term behavioral abnormalities relevant to neurodevelopmental disorders. The complement system is crucial for various neurobiological processes related to brain development, including synaptic remodeling, neuronal migration, and response to injuries. Our research shows that the complement system is critical in identifying damaged neurons and synapses and promoting their removal by microglia. PIs’ laboratories can provide exposure and training in the newly linked neuro and immune disciplines. The candidate for the position will work on rodent models of brain development and age-related neurodegeneration. He/she will bring a strong background in mouse handling and behavioral studies, histology and microscopy, and protein analysis, including Western Blotting. The candidate will also care for mouse colonies.

Successful candidates will have strong communications skills and a B.Sc. or/and M.Sc. in a suitable discipline of biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, or neuroscience.

Some weekends and after hours work as needed to meet project deadlines or maintain ongoing studies over the weekend.

Pay scale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 4: $35,561.00 - $44,977.00 - $58,393.00 (min - mid - max)
