Job Description Summary

The Dialysis Access Institute is looking for a Certified Surgical Technologist or Licensed Practical Nurse who would like to work as a surgical tech. Will train LPN to scrub.
 
Prepares surgical set-up for procedures; observes and anticipates the needs of the surgeon during the procedure; functions within a sterile field; Functions as a surgical assistant.

Work Environment

Works primarily in a clinical setting.   May be exposed to infectious, contagious, or blood-borne diseases.  May be exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and waste.  May be exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.  May be subject to burns and cuts.  Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements including accidents, injuries and illness.

None.

Essential Functions

Drapes patients for surgical procedures and assist the surgical team during operative procedure. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Maintains and cares for equipment supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs and troubleshoots equipment needs when necessary. Performs assisting duties within the scope of a practicing CST Level II. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand for periods up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds 50% of the time and up to 100 pounds 50% of the time in order to move anesthetized patients; must possess the fine manual dexterity skills to assist with operative procedures; and close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right), dept perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet away) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).

Mental Requirements

Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical, or technical procedures or regulations.  Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff.

Must possess the ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) using numbers and units of money.

Listeners can understand verbal communication.

Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions.

IX.      Population Served

This position primarily interacts with all age groups, genders and ethnicities and provides direct patient care.  All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, cultural and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Certified Surgical Technologists and one (1) year of scrub experience. Educational and clinical training with documentation for surgical assisting and/or proof of completion of Military training as an Operating Room Specialist (68-D) plus 3 years of experience in the operating room environment.  Case history must be provided by the potential employee. Or current LPN license in South Carolina.
