Job Description:
Our ever-growing small primary care clinic provides essential overall care for patients and acts as a
coordinator for any specialty care needs. Staff in this clinic room patients, take vital signs and health history.
Staff also perform point of care testing for flu, Covid, Strep, Hemoglobin A1C, and urinalysis. They also assists
the physicians with minor procedures and gives injections. Clinical staff may also assist front staff with
checking-in/checking-out patients.
Responsible for quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a
clinical practice. Duties to include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an
electronic medical record, giving injections and assisting with minor procedures

Job Description

  • Job Responsibilites:
  • Ensures accurate calibrations, cleaning and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC and UMA; tracked by documentation.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and any other pertinent information, communicating as appropriate. Document test and exam results. Communicates plan of care to the patient including formal development of patient education materials as necessary.
  • Maintains exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness of patient care environment, as required by OSHA, DHEC and UMA.
  • Maintains timely flow of patient, assists with scheduling of appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability. Screens patients for appropriate information and provides patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Observes, records and reports patient's physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to physician. Responds to and triages phone calls. Call in orders appropriately as ordered by physician. Instructs patient, as ordered by the physician, regarding treatment and/or medication. Responsible for monitoring and distribution of medication including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triages patients and prepares for physician exams and procedures. Assists with exam, procedures and treatments as necessary. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Administers prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician. LPN Minimum Training and Education: Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensed as an LPN within the State of South Carolina or with a compact state license. LPN Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina LPN License or compact state license. Current BLS required. Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces. 25% Job Responsibility: Clinical Independently performs and documents a variety of clinical procedures according to policy and procedures. Success Criteria: a. Using appropriate equipment, obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, BMI, HgA1C, head, chest, and abdominal circumference as appropriate to patient population. b. Completes chief complaint, reason for visit, change in patient condition, and all patient screenings for each visit. c. Assist patient with comfort related needs. d. Prepare patients for exam and all office procedures. e. Obtains, documents, and reports any abnormal findings to appropriate provider. f. Facilitate a positive learning environment for students, orient and train new staff in assigned areas. g. Assist in teaching patient care under direction of the RN or Provider. h. Appropriate use and documentation of unit or organizational level standing orders. i. Administer medicine to patients and adheres to rules, regulations and policies related to medication administration and documentation including evaluating response to medications. j. Obtain IV access as indicated. k. Medication Administration as applicable to unit including: administration of IV infusion fluids/meds (<50ml); IV heparin/saline flushes; operation of PCA pumps; initiate/monitor/regulate/discontinue fluids/therapies via Central Lines. l. Implements nursing interventions based on scope. m. Knowledge and compliance to practice within the clinical scope of a Licensed Practical Nurse. 25% Job Responsibility: Safety & Regulatory Provides safe and effect nursing care to patients and families. Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, and employees. Success Criteria: a. Demonstrates practice that reflects knowledge and performance related to the National Patient Safety Goals. b. Utilize standard precautions, contact isolation, and respiratory isolation according to policy. c. Follows policy and procedure for administering and delivering medications prescribed by an authorized provider including allergy check. d. Able to articulate and implements Unit Safety/Fire Plan/Emergency management resources. e. Demonstrates knowledge for utilizing incident reporting for unexpected events and GOOD Catches. f. Demonstrates correct body mechanics in work situations to maintain safety of self, patient, and other employees. g. Verification of blood products prior to administration. h. Utilizes 2 patient identifiers to ensure accurate patient identification. 20% Job Responsibility: Documentation Utilizes appropriate communication/documentation tools and devices in providing patient care and documenting appropriate information in the patient record. Success Criteria: a. Complete triage, regulatory checklist, and medical reconciliation as part of the complete triage process. b. Report abnormal findings or concerns to RN or provider. c. Review and follow-up on patient testing; report per clinic protocol. d. Maintain medication and immunization records. e. Complete medication pre-authorizations. f. Documents any appropriate charges and supporting documentation in EMR as applicable. g. Adheres to policy & procedures regarding patient phone calls and inbasket message management. 20% Job Responsibility: Specimen collecting & Point of Care Testing Identify patient and collect specimens as ordered. Follows policy and procedure for task performance and documentation. Success Criteria: a. Collects specimens as ordered, label and document according to policy and procedure. b. Reports specimen labeling errors. c. Utilizes 2 patient identifiers to ensure accurate patient identification. d. Completes Point of Care Testing as ordered, and documents results as ordered. e. Accepts and documents critical lab values. 10% Job Responsibility: Clerical & Clinical Support Perform clerical duties and ensure overall financial well-being of the clinic operations. a. Schedule tests and procedures b. Fax requisitions/consult forms, utilize tube system. c. Utilizes Computer systems (intranet, EMR, and email) d. Complete in-basket messages according to scope of practice. e. Ensure clinical spaces are stocked, organized, and clear of clutter.

Additional Job Description

Required Minimum Training and Education: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or Nursing License Compact.  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. One year of nursing experience required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina RN License or multi-state Nursing License Compact and BLS required.
