Job Description
Serves as an authorized representative for uninsured patients to secure Medicaid or other source of financial assistance for their hospital bill(s). Works with or on behalf of patients through the end-to-end process of applying for South Carolina Medicaid programs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide financial counseling to patients regarding their medical bills, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Assist patients in understanding their financial obligations and available resources, including payment plans and financial assistance programs.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including obtaining pre-authorizations and referrals as needed.
- Collaborate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve billing and insurance-related issues.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient financial records and documentation.
Additional Job Description
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in financial counseling, healthcare billing, or related field preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance terminology, and billing procedures.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.
