The EKG technician assumes responsibility and accountability for performing electrocardiograms on customers ranging in age from infant to the aged. The EKG technician is responsible for processing EKGs performed by the Cardiovascular Laboratory and other departments in the hospital. The EKG Technician is responsible for operating EKG machine(s) that record diagnostic cardiac activity for appropriate testing. EKG Technician explains procedure, prepares patient for the attachment of electrodes, record cardiac activity, observe the finding and generate reports for physician diagnosis. The EKG Technician is also responsible for attaching various arrhythmia monitor devices
Additional Job Description
Education and Requirements:
• High School Diploma
• Successful completion of EKG/EEG training from an accredited school.
• Must be competent in detection of cardiac arrhythmias.
• Minimum 1 year previous experience in acute care setting preferred; new graduates accepted.
• Ability to operate EKG and EEG equipment. Must be able to utilize hospital information system and be proficient in Holter Monitor scanning.
• Ability to communicate in a tactful, diplomatic way.
• Ability to handle informa¬tion with strict confidentiality.
• Willingness to upgrade skills with evolvement of technology
