Job Description Summary

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a candidate to fill their therapist position within the Addiction Sciences Division: Center for Drugs and Alcohol Program (CDAP). This position is for a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who will be working in a team environment in the Outpatient Clinic of the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. In this capacity, the Therapist will be providing individual and group therapy to individuals with addiction-related and other psychiatric illnesses and their families.

Job Description

Entity/Organization:  MUSC Physicians Primary Care (MUSCP)

Hours per week:  40

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Hours TBD Upon Hire; on campus

Pay Basis/FLSA:  Salary/Exempt

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Specific responsibilities include interviewing clients and/or families to assess the client's current diagnosis, coping strategies, cognitive strengths and deficits, situation strengths and weaknesses and mental status; developing and discussing proposed treatment plans with the client and detailing the recommendations and the reasoning for them; monitoring and documenting progress of clients and making service/treatment plan adjustments as necessary. Conducts community planning, needs assessment and evaluation concerning societal conditions which impact on social functioning.
  • Must ensure established agency procedures are followed and that clinical standards that are set for treatment planning, the delivery of individual case management services, group and psycho-educational data, discharge planning and referral services are met. Also responsible for planning, implementing and/or coordinating all treatment services delivered to clients. Collaboration and coordination with both internal and external resources are crucial to ensure successful client outcomes. Must be able to take suggestions from team supervisors.

Education: 

  • Licensed Social Worker (LISW): Master's Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education required.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor: Master's Degree in Counseling for LPC from an accredited program.
  • Licensed Marriage Family Therapist: Meet educational requirements for licensure in South Carolina

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: 

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist:  licensure by the applicable South Carolina Board required.

Degree of Supervision: Minimal Supervision.

Physical Requirements:

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
