Job Description Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina is recruiting a motivated Hybrid Medical Dosimetrist. Under the direction of the Chief Dosimetrist & Director of Clinical Radiation Oncology the Dosimetrist will generate clinically acceptable treatment plans, utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology. The Dosimetrist will communicate with the Radiation Oncologist during the treatment planning process and participate in communicating the plan to the Medical Physicist and the Radiation Therapist for implementation.

Job Description:

  • Hybrid Working Schedule: Position involves 30% on-site and 70% remote work.
  • Specialized schedule with Rotating Full Months of Remote Work (after completion of On-boarding)
  • Develop 2D, 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and SRS external beam treatment plans. Software includes Eclipse / Aria, RayStation, Radformation Auto Contour, Velocity, Variseed and Mobius.
  • Equipment includes: Siemens Somatom Confidence RT Pro CT simulators with Varian RGSC (Respiration Gating for Scanners); True Bream Linear Accelerators with VisionRT , Radixact Tomotherapy Machine, Gamma Knife & Elekta Flexitron HDR.
  • Perform image fusions with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
  • Transfer data electronically using record and verify systems.
  • Collaboration with fellow Dosimetrists, Physicians, Physicists, and other members of the department.
  • Help educate Physics Residents, Medical Residents, & Dosimetry Students.
  • Brachytherapy LDR Prostate Seed Implants & planning.
  • Aids and/or instructs staff in CT simulation.  Is available to respond to any changes/problems with daily treatment.
  • Participation in morning meetings, weekly chart review, and process improvements.

SKILLS:

Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety. Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans which include multi-modality imaging (MR, PET) for use in rigid and deformable registration, respiratory gating, and daily assessment of CBCT for dose tracking and possible treatment adaptation. Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices, and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools include computers and software such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information, and communication systems. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, and the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities. Demonstrate high level critical thinking and problem-solving skills, to include the ability to make quick evaluation and decisions for on-line adaptive responsibilities. Work independently, but in collaboration with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist. Demonstrate a working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as well as current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies. Exhibit the ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans as defined by relevant treatment protocols.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist issued by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) OR Board Eligible- Graduate of an Accredited Medical Dosimetry Program with Board Certification required within the first Two Years of placement/hire.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree OR Certificate/Associate degree in Radiation Therapy with ARRT Certification and at least 5 years of Medical Dosimetry experience.
  • ARRT registered Radiation Therapy background preferred.
