MUSC HealthPlex is actively seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapist, preferably a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), to join our team at the MUSC HealthPlex Outpatient Physical Therapy facility. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, focusing on orthopedic and neurological conditions for geriatric and sports medicine populations. As a dedicated Physical Therapist, you will leverage your expertise to perform direct access evaluations, deliver direct patient care, develop personalized treatment plans, and collaborate within a dynamic and patient-centered outpatient setting. Active licensure in South Carolina or the ability to secure it quickly, potentially through the Compact, is a requisite.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Patient Evaluation and Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions. This includes thorough physical examinations, medical history reviews, and interpretation of relevant diagnostic tests and is primarily focused on geriatric and sports medicine populations.

Individualized Treatment Plans: Develop customized treatment plans that align with patients' goals, functional abilities, and the severity of their orthopedic and neurological conditions. Emphasize rehabilitation tailored to orthopedic and neurological needs.

Evidence-Based Interventions: Implement evidence-based physical therapy interventions, which may include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular reeducation, gait training, and balance training. These interventions aim to optimize patients' functional outcomes.

Orthopedic and Neurological Care: Provide specialized therapy services that address orthopedic conditions like post-surgical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injuries, joint replacements, and neurological conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis.

Equipment and Modalities: Utilize specialized equipment and modalities as needed to enhance the effectiveness of treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on self-management strategies, home exercise programs, and injury prevention techniques to promote independent and sustained recovery.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech therapists. This collaboration ensures comprehensive patient care and holistic rehabilitation.

Progress Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans to optimize functional outcomes.

Safety and Ethical Standards: Adhere to infection control protocols, safety procedures, and ethical standards during patient care.

Accurate Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and outcomes in alignment with hospital and regulatory guidelines.

Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation research, evidence-based practices, and emerging treatment modalities.

Team Participation: Actively engage in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:

Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT): Possession of a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from an accredited program is preferred. Required to have at least a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy and active licensure.

Licensure: Hold an active physical therapy license or have the ability to expediently secure a license to practice as a Physical Therapist in South Carolina. Licensure through the Compact or other means is acceptable.

Relevant Experience: Prior experience working as a Physical Therapist with a strong focus on orthopedic and neurological conditions is highly desired.

Clinical Skills: Exhibit strong clinical skills in evaluating and treating orthopedic conditions, such as post-surgical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal injuries, and joint replacements.

Neurological Expertise: Demonstrate familiarity with neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis.

Evidence-Based Practice: Possess knowledge of evidence-based physical therapy interventions, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and neuromuscular reeducation.

Communication Skills: Display excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration with patients, families, and members of interdisciplinary teams.

Documentation Proficiency: Be proficient in documentation and record-keeping practices, ensuring full compliance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
