Job Description Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

The Device Specialist in the Cardiovascular Clinic reports to the Cardiovascular Clinic Manager. Under general supervision, the Device Specialist organizes the provision of care for patients with pacemaker/ICD devices through the process of planning, evaluation and coordination of care

Job Description

This role performs pacemaker analysis and programs pacemakers to correct values/optimal settings within clinics, by phone, or various areas of the hospital. This position performs pacemaker/ICD programming, monitoring and other related procedures: provides interpretations, analyses and test/summary reports as required. Monitors pacemaker/ICD functions: reports on abnormalities and responds to queries including troubleshooting. Monitors patients being followed remotely through home monitoring, evaluates monthly/quarterly device checks and prepares reports for review of physicians and EP providers. The Device Specialist communicates effectively with health care team to achieve desired results for cardiovascular patients. 

Minimum Education and Experience: 

BS in a related field, and previous healthcare experience.  

Individual will have successfully completed training from an approved pacemaker school (such as Arrhythmia Technology Institute (ATI) or PrepMD) or be certified through International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE). 

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Certification by Arrhythmia Technologies Institute Preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) required within 6 months of employment required. All required certifications must be maintained.
