Job Description Summary

A senior staff scientist is sought to assist a well-funded neuroscience research lab with analysis of epigenetic and transcriptional regulatory factors involved in behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorders or substance and alcohol use disorders. The successful applicant will have extensive experience with experimental approaches to studying chromatin state, epigenetic regulation of gene expression, and modern transcriptomic analysis of single cells. The applicant must be independent and highly motivated and have demonstrated ability to work well in a research team. Ideal candidate will have a PhD, postdoctoral experience, and experience as a staff scientist, and will have co-authored peer-reviewed original research publications related to epigenetics and genomics.

Job Description

Job Duties:

• 35%: Carry out original research projects to advance goals of funded research projects. This includes performing biochemical and in silico experiments to evaluate chromatin state produced by epigenetic enzymes or transcription factors, performing experiments to assess binding of epigenetic enzymes to genomic DNA, analysis of changes in gene expression using qRT-PCR, RNA scope, or single-cell sequencing approaches. Additional original research likely involves working with lab animals (mice) to extract brain tissues, performing survival surgeries on mice for behavior or molecular-genetic analyses.

• 25%: Assist the PI with generation of extramural grant proposals and peer-reviewed publications, including the generation of publication-quality figures, detailed experimental methods write-ups, and assistance with manuscript preparation.


• 15%: Interpret data and report on work in progress at weekly meetings.


  • 15%: Supervise and mentor lab volunteers or graduate students, and train new lab members in techniques as needed.

  • 10%: Assist the lab director with generating figures and text for research publications.

Minimum Requirements: Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent with seven years postdoctorate experience
