Job Description Summary

This position will function as a case manager providing services to victims of crime for the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVRTC). The case manager will conduct telephone intake phone screens of potential new patients for a behavioral health trauma clinic, as well as provide community-based individual evaluations and intensive case management. The position includes evidence-based early interventions via community-based approaches with an emphasis on family members whose loved ones were killed. This position involves both intensive case management and programmatic oversight of the NCVRTC Specialized Services for Survivors of Homicide program. This human services coordinator will organize support groups and assist in the planning and implementation of community resiliency building events in coordination with local victim advocacy agencies.

Job Description

FLSA: Salaried

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30AM - 5:00PM, On campus with possibility for some remote work.

Job Duties:

  • 20% - The case manager will provide intensive case management for victims of crime. Case management services will include completing needs assessments for referred clients, completing program interest surveys for all referred clients, and connecting clients to resources in the community for basic needs, such as housing, food, transportation, etc. The case manager will also connect clients to other victim advocacy programs and assist with court accompaniment needs related to the victimization (e.g. support during court, transportation to court related meetings, etc.). The case manager will assist trainees and other clinical providers at the clinic with case management referrals to connect their clients to resources. Case management may be provided over phone, in-person at the office, in-person in the community, or via telehealth.
  • 15% - The case manager will organize community events planning for specific victim populations (e.g., Survivors of Homicide Candlelight Vigil and Service of Remembrance, National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, Survivor of Homicide Spring Fellowship Picnic). This will include organization of materials, supplies, creation and distribution of flyers, connection with local agencies, and providing transportation for survivors to these events. In addition, the case manager will assist in other outreach events in the community by managing tabling related to services provided by the NCVRTC.  This will include bringing supplies and flyers for our services and being available at these events to speak to victims and survivors about NCVRTC services.
  • 15% - The case manager will conduct trauma phone screens with homicide survivors and other victims of crime for the general outpatient clinic to determine appropriateness of patient care within the NCVRTC. These assessments will be conducted over the phone using structured, brief interviews to determine if trauma-focused services at the NCVRTC are appropriate. The case manager will be cross-trained and provide back-up for scheduling of victims with providers within the NCVRTC outpatient clinics and for managing the front desk, as needed.
  • 15% - The case manager will participate in team meetings and community-based meetings, as well as provide community trainings on trauma and victimization. The case manager will assist with taking notes of meetings and distributing to team for follow-up tasks. The case manager will be a participant on the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) for survivors of homicide, with the potential to co-lead community-based MDT meetings addressing the needs of survivors of homicide.
  • 15% - The case manager will conduct needs assessments with survivors of homicide using the NASH. These assessments may be conducted over the phone, virtually, in-person at the office, or in-person in the community. This will follow a semi-structured interview to determine survivor needs. The case manager will utilize the needs assessment to connect survivors to indicated resources in the community.
  • 10% - The case manager will organize support group counseling for victims of crime for both virtual and in person groups in community. These duties include including organizing and distributing support group schedules, attending support groups to allow for coordination of case management needs of group members, and providing transportation to survivors who may need assistance attending these groups.
  • 5% - The case manager will track program reporting information and victim services documentation in an excel database daily. The case manager will maintain and clean victim reporting database for quarterly reporting basis and present summary data during monthly program meetings.
  • 5% - Other administrative duties as assigned.

Preferred Education & Experience:  Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and two years professional experience in human services or social services program; or a Master’s degree in lieu of preferred experience. Applicants with experience working with victims of crime, experience working on a multi-disciplinary team, and comfortable providing community-based outreach services are encouraged to apply. This position utilizes databases to track service delivery, so knowledge of Excel and other programs (SPSS, Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) is a plus! Applicants with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals, ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures are helpful. We encourage applicants with a strong work ethic to apply. Occasional evenings and weekend hours, especially for community events required. This is primarily an in-person position with some potential remote work allowable based on performance and ability to complete job tasks. Applicants must be able to provide home-based and community-based services. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive state vehicles to transport clients.
